State Department Imposes Visa Restrictions on Taliban Members

Visa Restrictions Imposed on Taliban October 2022

The U.S. Department of State has announced a visa restriction policy against current or former Taliban members and other individuals believed to be responsible for the repression of women in Afghanistan. This visa action, announced on October 11, 2022, is done under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The Taliban have been repressing women and girls by restricting access to education, preventing them from fully participating in the workforce, restricting careers open to women, and engaging in violence against women. Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls are not allowed to attend school beyond the sixth grade.
